INTRODUCTION TO Yaz ALEXANDER

Yaz Alexander is a Reggae & Jazz singer whose history in these genres span over twenty years.

Having gained recognition from being a longstanding backing vocalist for UK reggae luminaries Pato Banton and the legendary Steel Pulse, the inspiration from this work led her to a solo career.

Yaz holds strong to her passion for exploring Roots Reggae, Contemporary Reggae, Jazz, Dub, Lover's Rock, Dancehall & Hip Hop and loves being involved with a variety of musical experimentations & collaborations for various session projects in the UK and abroad.

Since her solo debut in 2007 she has delivered performances on the vibrant summer festival circuits of Europe and the UK and has taken her works as far a field as North America and the Caribbean.

In 2007, Yaz was commissioned by an heritage lottery funded project to write a song to commemorate the bi-centenary of the abolition of the slave trade in Great Britain and the track that she penned, "Cry For Freedom" became her 2nd Album and was subsequently used incidentally in an edition of BBC TV's award winning documentary, Panorama.

2007/8 also saw Yaz fly to the original home of Reggae music; Jamaica. Whilst there, took no time in using her debut album 'Life Begins' to help establish media links that led to a TV appearance with Etana & Tessanne Chin on CVMTV, Radio interviews across the island, some great live shows and a wonderful recording session with the legendary Dean Frazer to record her first authentic Jamaican production 'My Everything' which is on the popular 'She's Royal' reggae riddim.

Yaz has performed at some great events - home and abroad since her solo venture, including:

Voice of the Voiceless (Italy)
Rototom Festival (Italy)
Sazavafest (Czech Republic)
Ostroda Reggae Festival (Poland)
Mobile Festival (USA)

"I absolutely love lots of the places I've performed at here in the UK, Europe and North America, I've met some wonderful people on this creative journey and it's always exciting when many people living different ways of life come together under one roof purely for the love of music and humanity – it's awesome."
